Director – Sanne Kortooms
Sanne Kortooms is a Dutch award winning director, writer and filmmaker. In 2010 she graduated from the HKU University of the Arts in Utrecht, the Netherlands (Master of Arts, with honors), with two films and a thesis. Her film The Blue Bus has been screened at many film festivals around the world and has won several awards, including Best Student Film at the Cambridge International Student Film Festival and the Audience Award at the NTR New Arrivals.After finishing film school, she directed another short film (Verbonden), worked as an assistant director, unit production manager and script supervisor at different movie sets. Although Sanne graduated in fiction, she always had a keen interest in documentaries. For her internship she worked at the Dutch broadcasting company, VPRO. in 2013 and 2014 she followed the building of the very first hotel of Turkish-Dutch entrepreneur Atilay Uslu, which resulted in a ten-part series broadcasted by RTL4. And from 2015 till 2017 she worked on a documentary series about the lives of four Dutch soldiers on different foreign missions. Together with DoPs Ewoud Bon and Max Maloney, Sanne visited conflict zones in Somalia and Mali. With these kinds of projects, she combines her interest in traveling and adventure with her longing to discover “new worlds & stories”.
Next to her work in film and documentaries, Sanne also works as freelance director, copywriter and concept developer in TV and advertising. She directs, and writes both fiction and animation scripts for brands such as Philips, BMW, ABN AMRO, Dr Oetker and Go-Tan.
In all her work, either fiction or documentary, Sanne always tries to focus on people and their personal story or psyche. It is her goal to let her viewers fully immerse in a world they (might) have never experienced before and make them wonder about themselves and the world we live in.
in 2017 Sanne finished her latest film To Catch a Fly, which premiered at the Netherlands Film Festival in Utrecht. To Catch a Fly has won many awards on different film festivals around the world. I.e: Best Directing, Best Cinematography, Best Actor, Best Film and three times it took the Audience Award home.
